Overview

HASTELLOY X is a wrought nickel base alloy with excellent high temperature strength and oxidation resistance.   this alloy has outstanding resistance at 2200o F. to oxidation and possesses exceptional strength at elevated temperatures. Molybdenum enables this alloy to be hard, strong, and suitable for welding applications. Alloy X exhibits good formability and machinability.

Hastelloy X is recommended especially for use in furnace applications because it has unusual resistance to oxidizing, reducing, and neutral atmospheres. Furnace rolls made of this alloy were still in good condition after operating for 8,700 hours at 2150 °F (1177°C).

Alloy X also has performed well in jet engine tailpipes, afterburner components, cabin heaters, and other aircraft parts.

It is used extensively in high temperature jet engine and chemical processing applications and is highly resistant to stress corrosion cracking in petrochemical applications. Industrial furnace applications incorporate Alloy X for its resistance to oxidizing and its ability to maintain good ductility after prolonged exposure to extremely high temperatures.

Corrosion Resistance

Hastelloy X alloy's corrosion resistance can be summarized as follows:

  1. High-Temperature Resistance: Hastelloy X alloy exhibits excellent corrosion resistance at high temperatures, making it suitable for prolonged use at temperatures around 1200°C (2200°F).

  2. Stability in Oxidizing Environments: It demonstrates good stability in oxidizing environments such as hot air, resisting corrosion caused by high-temperature oxidation. This property makes it widely used in aerospace and other fields.

  3. Resistance to Sulfides and Sulfidation: Hastelloy X alloy shows good resistance to sulfides and sulfidation, making it an ideal choice for handling sulfur-containing media.

  4. Oxidation Resistance: Additionally, it possesses oxidation resistance, maintaining stability at high temperatures without significant loss of properties.

Heat Treatment

Wrought forms of HASTELLOY X alloy are furnished in the solution heat-treated condition unless otherwise specified. X alloy is solution heat-treated at 2150°F (1177°C) and rapid cooled. Bright annealed products are cooled in hydrogen.
